BOOK REPAIR WORKSHOP/BEGINNERS LEVEL

Book repair seems as though it should be as simple as a roll of tape and 30 seconds to spare at the desk, though all of us know from experience this is not the case. Repairing, mending and assessing damaged materials is a process that requires an understanding not only of book structure and function, but also where your institution's priorities are in terms of budget and use of staff time. Learn how books best function, what can be fixed and what can't, the tools of the trade and how to take a wider look at the process to make the best choices possible for your collection.

Presenter: Nik Beauchemin attended the North Bennet Street School full time Bookbinding program and successfully graduated in 2016. They began working at the Peterborough Town Library in 2019, and have been facilitating repairs and maintaining the collection ever since. In between library repairs, they love to make marbled and paste papers, hand bound journals and fine leather bindings as well as partaking in a variety of fiber arts.

This workshop is limited to 15 people in person.
