Unlocking the Future: AI in Libraries Panel Discussion

Join us for an enlightening panel discussion that dives into the transformative world of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries. As technology evolves at lightning speed, it's crucial for librarians to stay informed about the latest AI developments that can enhance library services and operations. Our panel of librarians will explore essential topics, including the formulation of effective AI policies and procedures that ensure ethical use and data privacy, as well as training and resources to equip library staff with the skills needed to navigate this new landscape. Whether you're a seasoned librarian or just starting your journey in the field, this discussion will provide valuable insights and practical strategies to help you embrace AI's potential in your library. Don't miss this opportunity to learn, share, and connect with fellow library professionals as we explore the future of libraries in the age of AI!

What Works (and What Doesn’t): Real Talk on Adult Library Programs

Join us for a lively panel discussion with adult programming librarians as they share their best ideas and experiences. Hear what has worked, what hasn’t, and the creative solutions they’ve discovered along the way. You’ll leave with fresh inspiration and practical tips to bring back to your own library.

Better Book Clubs: Making the Conversation Count

Join the READS-to-Go Committee in exploring the ins and outs of organizing and facilitating a book club. Learn how to adapt to your particular group, foster equitable discussion, and what to do in sensitive situations. Time will be given for Q&A, so bring your questions about book clubs and LibCal!

Checks should be made out to NHLA-READS Section, sent to Tanya Griffith, Hollis Social Library 2 Monument Square Hollis, NH 03049. All payments need to be RECEIVED prior to the day of the conference. Registration questions should be addressed to Eileen Gilbert, Belmont Public Library. Library Management or “What I Wish I Already Knew on My First Day of Work at a Library!”

This class will address topics including budgeting, fundraising, physical plant management, policy development, staff hiring, supervision and training, and volunteer supervision. In addition, subjects such as board governance, intellectual freedom, leadership, and privacy will be incorporated into the training. Since any one of these topics could be their own two-hour presentation, the goal of this class is to offer an introduction that will allow participants to become better equipped to ask questions of how each of these topics are handled in their own library.  Mindy and Brittany will speak about these topics and themes from their own perspectives and offer insight into how they worked together to support each other in their respective roles.

Please bring a lunch for your one hour lunch break.

Mindy Atwood is the Assistant State Librarian for the New Hampshire State Library. Prior to the State Library, Mindy worked as a New Hampshire public library director for more than twelve years at the Abbott Library in Sunapee, NH and the Salisbury Free Library in Salisbury, NH. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College as well as a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Clarion University. In 2019, Mindy attended the New England Library Leadership Symposium at Rolling Ridge. She was the 2023 NHLA President and in 2024, received the Impact Award from the New Hampshire School Library Media Association.

Brittany Blomquist is currently the technology and outreach librarian at the Abbott Library.

This presentation is sponsored by the NHLA Paralibrarian Section and is open to members and non-members.

    Why Democracy? (Josh Duclos)

Democracy is taken to be an obvious good. Wrap up Session

A chance for us all to discuss the confidentiality law changes, share ideas and some potential best practices before we head home.
